 Few travelers driving Interstate 80 between Sacramento and San Francisco realize that just mere miles from the Fairfield city limits is a thriving wine country, where acres of grapevines grow amid a backdrop of green rolling hills and blue skies. Drive just a few miles outside of the busy city and discover this beautiful area that has been described by Sunset Magazine as “undiscovered and unpretentious.”

Visitors come from near and far to Suisun Valley every day to sample the delectable wines that are produced here. Altogether, Suisun Valley wineries produce ?over two dozen wine-grape varieties. Over a dozen of these wineries have opened their own tasting rooms on their properties. Wooden Valley Winery, BackRoad Vines, G V Cellars, Il Fiorello Olive Oil Company and Vezer Family Vineyard's Blue Victorian and Mankas Corner Gardens are open daily. Others are open weekends and by appointment. Enjoy a relaxed wine tasting experience, where award-winning wines are poured by the winemakers themselves.

The tranquil Suisun Valley may be best known for its wine but this region offers so much more and during the summer months in particular, is a local favorite for fresh fruits and vegetables. Family-owned farms dot the area, where local are known to grow a variety of fruits and vegetables alongside acres of grapevines. Beginning in late spring and continuing into the fall, farm stands open their doors to excited visitors looking for quality, fresh and delicious produce. These stands have just about every seasonal fruit and vegetable imaginable, such as peaches, apricots, plums, pears, melons, cherries, nectarines, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, pumpkins, flowers and more.

Fairfield’s Scandia Family Fun Center and Driven Raceway, as well as the nearby Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, offer every configuration of amusement, from miniature golf and arcade games to laser tag and indoor kart racing to the latest thrill rides and exotic animal encounters. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is just 15 minutes from Fairfield and is a great day excursion for a family, where marine life, wildlife and wild rides come together for an unforgettable experience.

Jelly Belly is home to the world famous jelly beans, made famous by President Ronald Reagan over three decades ago. Visit the factory, enjoy a free tour, and explore the visitor’s center with over 100 fine confections. Free tours are offered daily, where visitors can step into the factory and smell the aroma of chocolate, peach, cinnamon or whatever delicious treat is being cooked that day. Learn the secrets to how the legendary Jelly Belly jelly bean is created and why it takes more than a week to make a single bean. Over 20 million jelly beans are made at the factory every day – and you can taste every flavor at the sample bar! Meanwhile, over at the Anhueser-Busch Brewery located less than a mile away from Jelly Belly, the marquee attraction is the “Flights of Fairfield,” an intimate experience for small groups that includes a one- on-one session with a brewing expert in a brand new tasting room. All participants must be 21 years or older. A gift shop open to the public offers unique memorabilia and merchandise. The brewery also hosts summer concerts and other special events throughout the year.

While the Anheuser-Busch Brewery is the most recognized brewery in the area, locally-owned taprooms are popping up throughout Fairfield and nearby Suisun City. Most are open daily and frequently host food trucks or live musical entertainment. Heretic Brewing Company offers over a dozen of its beers on tap, with names that include Evil Twin, Shallow Grave, Evil Cousin, and, for those with a sweet tooth, Chocolate Hazelnut Porter. Pioneer Tap Room, Fairfield’s newest tasting room, is located next door to the Suisun Valley Wine Co-op and ?serves its own crafted brews as well as other beers. Another area taproom, Right-Eye Brewing, offers eight uniquely crafted beers from tap. A nationally-known distributor, Blue Frog Brewery, is available in Fairfield’s Fuddruckers restaurant. The local taprooms, like our wineries, welcome visitors and tours and are always willing to answer questions about how they craft their beers.

With over 600 acres, Solano County’s Rockville Hills Regional Park, the largest regional park in Solano County, is a favorite with mountain bikers and hikers. With four miles of uphill, downhill, and flat terrain, Rockville Hills is a perfect recreational area for hikers and runners, families looking to explore or those searching for quiet moments on the trails. Don’t be too surprised to come across cows, birds and other wildlife that call this area home. Be sure to bring a camera – the views are breathtaking! Another popular outdoor area is Rush Ranch, a 2,070-acre open space area located in southern Solano County just moments from Fairfield. Rush Ranch, owned and operated by the non-profit Solano Land Trust, neighbors the Suisun Marsh and has won countless hearts with its vast open spaces of rolling grasslands, its serene tranquility, history and abundance of bird and wildlife viewing opportunities. When you visit, be sure to take advantage of the opportunities to get a closer look at the unique habitat of the marsh through docent guided interpretative hikes, as well as blacksmithing demonstrations, the old farm equipment graveyard, and a native plant garden.

For those visiting from out of the area, attending one of these beloved and popular events is a great way to meet locals and get a true taste of what it means to call Fairfield home.

'The beautiful Suisun Valley draws hundreds of visitors to the area for the Suisun Valley Passport Sunday in April and Uncorked in June. Rush Ranch Open Space has its annual open house in April and Jelly Belly’s Candy Palooza, a giant candy festival, is in September. Fun Family Farm Days is a fun event every October and the Suisun Valley AVA Anniversary celebration is in December.

Meanwhile, in historic downtown Fairfield, local and out-of-town visitors enjoy a number of events hosted by the Fairfield Main Street Association, including a weekly Farmers’ Market from May to October, an Independence Day Parade, a Tomato Festival in August, a Veterans Day parade in November and a Christmas tree lighting and caroling event in December.

Il Fiorello is a family-owned company dedicated to growing and milling the finest quality artisan olive oil. Owners Ann and Mark Sievers produce oil from their own groves located in Green Valley and Suisun Valley. Il Fiorello welcomes guests to their visitor center and olive mill in Suisun Valley for tours and tastings. Take a cooking class at the Kitchen in the Grove Culinary Center, enjoy olive oil, wine, food and great views of over 2,000 olive trees. Sepay Groves Olive Oil and Vinegars sells premium olive oil at a reasonable price and concentrates on getting the best oil into the bottle. Visitors are welcome at their store, where they have over 20 different oils to taste and enjoy as well as over 30 different vinegars. Sepay Groves also offers short lessons on how to taste for quality and how to buy.
