Suisun Valley Passport Sunday

With "passports" in hand, travel from one winery to the next and experience the food, wine and beauty of this vibrant yet tranquil valley.

 

This popular spring event in Suisun Valley showcases the wines of the region to enthusiasts from Solano County and beyond.  Attendees are invited to spend the afternoon traveling from one winery to the next, tasting unique Suisun Valley wines, sampling foods from an array of area restaurants and farmers, and collecting stamps on their passports while socializing with family and friends.

 

For new and returning visitors, getting around the area is easy and enjoyable, as the Suisun Valley "loop" is located just minutes from I-80 in Fairfield. The wine makers are known for being approachable and enjoy sharing stories about how they craft their wines. Expect to see them all on Passport Sunday, pouring behind the bar or from a barrel in their cellar. Must be 21 or over.

 

 

 

Jelly Belly Visitors Center Anniversary Celebration

This free event celebrates Jelly Belly's popular visitors center in Fairfield. Some of the many activities include carnival games and rides, free tours and sampling, and arts and crafts.

 

Visitors of all ages are invited to join in the many festivities at the Jelly Belly Factory as the visitors center celebrates its anniversary in Fairfield. The two-day weekend event features carnival rides, arts and crafts, midway games, local entertainment and more. Admission is free and so is parking.  Although there is a fee to go on the rides, many of the other activities are free, including factory tours.  There are also tastings of many delectable treats, such as the popular fudge, taffy and gourmet Jelly Belly jelly beans.  Guests are also welcome to take part in the Chocolate & Wine Experience, where local Suisun Valley wines are paired with homemade chocolates.

Similar to Passport Sunday, Uncorked gives visitors a taste of the beautiful valley, but this time, it's all in one place. The evening event includes an auction, live band and delicious cuisine prepared by distinguished chefs.

 

Spend an evening in beautiful Suisun Valley, sampling the best food and wine the area has to offer. Uncorked, a unique wine tasting of Suisun Valley appellated wines, is hosted by the Suisun Valley Vintners and Growers Association in June.

 

Uncorked, an annual fundraiser auction for the association, features a wide selection of Suisun Valley wines and gourmet food from distinguished chefs.  One of the more unique aspects of this event is that visitors have the opportunity to taste wines from many of the small wineries in Suisun Valley.  Since they are so small, they do not have tasting rooms or bottles in stores so to sample their wines at Uncorked is a special treat. In prior years, close to 20 wineries have participated in this popular event. Must be 21 or over.

Celebrate our nation's independence in downtown Fairfield with the annual Independence Day Parade hosted by the Fairfield Main Street Association. This popular community event draws thousands to Texas Street. Dressed in red, white and blue and proudly waving American flags, spectators of all ages cheer as the parade makes its trek through the downtown core.  There is always a myriad of entries, ranging from youth groups, service organizations and civic leaders to horses, antique cars and dancers.

One of the largest events in Fairfield, the Tomato Festival has been a staple in downtown for over 20 years. The free admission event includes a tomato alley, a farmers market, local entertainment, arts and crafts, kids rides and activities, and a beer and wine garden.  There are hours and hours of live entertainment on two stages by local performers.  The event also features a salsa recipe and Bloody Mary recipe contests, tomato cooking demonstrations, and a tomato eating contest .  The VIP food and wine pairing is also very popular, with tickets sold separately.

Special spring train rides on the Vintage Comet and  all month long from the Scenic Limited and Vintage Comet and Scenic Limited   The Vintage Comet Wine Train returns to the Western Railway Museum every April to give wine enthusiasts and wildflower lovers in Solano County and beyond the chance to experience wine, history and nature on its historic electric railway. Every Saturday in April, the Vintage Comet departs for a 75-minute, 11-mile ride in the stunning late-afternoon light. While admiring the views of the native wildflowers that cover the hillsides and fields, passengers 21 years and over will be able to sample and learn about four area wines.  Juice will be available for patrons under 21 or those who prefer non-alcoholic beverages. Tickets are $25.

 

While children are allowed to ride the Vintage Comet Wine Train, parents looking for a more family-oriented experience with their kids are encouraged to ride the Scenic Limited, which departs three times a day on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Coach tickets are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors 65 and older and $7 for children between the ages of 2 and 14. First class service is an additional $6 per ticket.  All riders will receive cookies and lemonade.
