San Francisco Bay Area Artist and Suisun Valley native Donna Covey has added a new painting to her popular series that highlights historic locations in Fairfield's rustic wine country.
This new painting features the exterior of the Suisun Valley Inn, a seven-suite inn that sits on the 27-acre Monroe Ranch off Suisun Valley Road.
It’s the 16th in a series of Covey’s colorful interpretations of buildings, landmarks and locations in her Suisun Valley Series which includes Gomer School, Vezer Winery, Iwama Market, Wooden Valley Winery, Mangels Family Home and Vineyards, Blue Victorian, The Clay Station, Rockville Corner and several others.
"The focus of my work is to find beauty in ordinary buildings and signs and to emphasize the lines, shapes, and textures on those structures that often go unnoticed," Covey wrote on her website. "I use buildings and signs as a vehicle to create design and composition within my format and add splashy color to make sure these buildings, landmarks and locations are noticed... I hope the images bring fond memories and smiles to you, your family and friends."
Covey grew up in Suisun Valley, and her paintings from this area were the first in her series. The original collection of 13 paintings were featured in her book “Suisun Valley Landmarks, A Walk Down Memory Lane,” published in 2011. She has been painting icoic Northern California locations for the last decade. Two new paintings "Rockville Corner" and "Mangel's Home and Vineyards" were commissioned by residents of Suisun Valley for their private collections.
She’s also captured iconic structures and landmarks in her series of the cities of Benicia, Vacaville and Truckee, the North Beach area and Pescadero-Butano Series.
You can see some of her work beginning Dec. 1 at Marilyn Citron O’Rourke Art Gallery at the Benicia Library, 150 E. L St.
