Come fly a kite at Lynch Canyon Kite Festival

Come fly a kite high in the blue skies above Lynch Canyon!

The Solano Land Trust will host the 8th annual Lynch Canyon Kite Festival on April 9. This family-favorite event has skyrocketed in popularity in recent years and is FREE for all participants. The festival will be on Saturday, April 9, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Bay breezes, grassy hills and open fields make for ideal kite-flying conditions at Lynch Canyon, a natural park and working ranch between the cities of Fairfield and Vallejo. Local residents and visitors are invited to bring family and friends, kites and a picnic lunch to the festival. Lawn chairs and picnic blankets are welcome. Participants should be sure to bring plenty of drinking water since there is none at Lynch Canyon. Dogs are not allowed to protect wildlife, rare plants and free-range cattle. Remember, Lynch Canyon, located off Interstate 80 between Fairfield and Vallejo, is a working cattle ranch where free range cows roam as they please. You'll likely encounter a cow or two on the day of your kite-flying adventure. 11250926_875578892487896_3982860990100019051_o (1) Lynch Canyon’s annual kite festival is the legacy of Mike Rydjord, who passed away in 2013. Rydjord was a C-5 and US Airways pilot, and a flight instructor at Travis Air Force Base. He founded the festival to share his love of air, wind, land and flying. He would spend his time at the festival helping first-timers get airborne and discussing technique with more experienced flyers. People around the world have been flying kites for centuries. Kites have been used to fight evil spirits, bless harvests, carry messages, advance science, win wars, learn about wind and weather, and bring joy. Parking at Lynch Canyon is $6 and carpooling is encouraged. Annual parking passes are also available. The grassy field that will be used for kite flying is next to the main parking lot. The kite festival is free for all participants and no registration is required.
