Looking for something fun, relaxing, and educational this summer? A visit to the Western Railway Museum is just the ticket, with expanded summer hours and a special Father's Day event. At just an hour's drive from San Francisco, Stockton, Sonoma or Sacramento, it's a fun and easy day-trip.

A new event, "Beer Tasting for Dads," will be held on Fathers' Day, Sunday June 21, from noon - 3:00 PM. This celebration of fatherhood features train rides, activities for the whole family, and beer tasting aboard a 100-year old parlor-observation car. A limited number of $20 special event tickets will get 35 lucky Dads and their pals a souvenir pint glass and a sampling of 4 different beers from our friends at Woodland's Decompression Rx Brewing and 4C's Brewing. Meanwhile, non-tasters, kids, and Dads in between pours can engage in a scavenger hunt, hands-on activities, and streetcar rides every half hour.

Now through Labor Day, the Museum will be open 5 days each week: Wednesday through Sunday from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The Museum will also be open and operating trains on Independence Day (Saturday, July 4) and on Labor Day (Monday, September 7).

The highlight of any visit is an hour-long, 11-mile ride on an authentic, restored historic interurban through the Sacramento Northern Railway National Historic District. Trains run at 11:00 AM, 12:30 PM, 2:00 PM, and 3:30 PM. Docents describe local sights and railroad history on every trip.

Visitors can also experience the Traction Labs interactive energy and transportation exhibit, tour the Car House (where 25 life-size antique electric rail cars are preserved), picnic under large shade trees in spacious Laflin Park, and shop in the Museum store.

Museum admission is just $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $7 for kids. A $20 special event ticket is required for Beer Tasting for Dads, available through BrownPaperTickets.com at: www.brownpapertickets.com/event/1640088

The Museum is located at 5848 State Highway 12, Suisun City, CA in rural Solano County, 15 minutes east of Interstate 80, and halfway between Suisun City and Rio Vista. For more information, call 707-374-2978.
